Thanks ah dear..

Singapore Sports - What do we need?

Disappointingly.. SG lost the semi finals of the Suzuki Cup.. The papers are all filled with words like shame, and disappointment. But what is the real disappointment to u?

If SG had won the Suzuki cup, aka Tiger cup in the past, would we have been proud? Half the singaporeans would curse and swear and say "aiya, all the ang mo playing, of course win la.. go challenge the world stage and see.."

Then will come the topic of foriegn talent.. then comes the arguement from sports council saying, other countries are doin it, so what's wrong wif it?

So we need to win an Olympic silver again in London 2012? Do we need to dominate the footballing world? What will happen if we cannot even make it to past the group stage of Suzuki cup next yr, wat can happen any way?

So do you know y the stadium is not as pack as before? do u know y we were once so proud of winning only the M-League but no body cares when we won the whole south east asia?

We dun hav to win..
..
..
We only need to do our best!!!

If we see 11 Singaporeans, not only citizens, but home bornt, home grown.. gone thru primary school, early childhood which consist of school work and ECA, sang the national athemn every morning, watch the National day parade live at national stadium at least once, took PSLE, get complained by parents of playing too much soccer and not studying, etc etc etc.. u know what i mean..

When we see that lineup.. then u can be sure national stadium will be 50,000 crowd full even against a small country for a friendly game..

Quite a fool..

While chatting with seowyuin, she told me that she could help go thru my resume since I'm in the mist of updating it. Decided to show it to her reminding her not to laugh at it.. haha in the end, when she returned with comments, I laughed at myself.

OMG... I always thought that I found a wonderful template and am so proud of it..
To my horror, it was not even near..

She provided very valuable comments which leaves me to think I need really alot of time to change my resume, and also reminded me of a nonsencial incident involving my gd pal, Suz..

When I was first looking for job, she wanted to helped becoz she is workin at some HR recruitment agency, she looked at my "then proud resume" and scolded me and say it was a lousy written resume. Of course hearing that, my first reactions was to defend myself, completely ignoring her words. Reason: simply becoz I spend alot of time to make up the nice template. (n i'm still proud of it today)

If someday she gets to see this, well, Sorry Suz..

Since this is a thing of the past, think i'm not goin to bring it up right at her face and apologise, at least i think i really did a gd job for her bday tis yr, hope can call it quits.

Congrats Alvin & Shujing

Last Sunday/Monday, 7th Dec - 8th Dec 2008, was a fantastic and magnificant day for the couple. In a relationship lasting 9 yrs, they finalling tie the knot at raffles hotel.

No mixed feelings at all, it was a busy but yet fulfilling day being a brother for one of my very good friends.

Oh wait, there is one thing worth mentioning about Alvin after all. Throughout the whole wedding preparation to actual day's event, I have been hearing some unhappiness from people around him, saying, he has not done enough for Shujing, and esp in wedding preparations, many things were left to her alone.

I cannot speak up for him on that, and I dun really know the details to start defending Alvin etc. But you have to agree something about Alvin is his patience and attitude towards the people around him. Have you ever seen him flare up or throw a tantram? Has he ever shouted or even show unhappiness? NEVER!!!

I wouldn't say I meet him often enough these years and I didn't spend 3 yr with him in Australia. but indeed he has never blown his temper. Every injustice he suffered, he would just keep quiet with a smile. Especially during days when we were in poly, the 4 of us always move around together, 2 x Alvin, lb and myself. We often had quarrels and things we dun seem to agree on, all of us had a taste of each others' temper, but never had I felt it from Alvin.

My point is, dun always judge a person by the things he did correct or wrong, judge from his attitude and behaviour at extreme moments. Haha, perhaps tat's the same logic as from army when they whack the trainee damn jialat before examining their ability to handle situations etc.

What happened in Munbai??

Just received a notice about my blog being locked.. seems like quite long since I last posted and also quite long since someone read it as well.. ~失败

Nvm that, what prompted me to make some noise is the news of Mumbai terrorist attack.

Let's make this short, saw a sms talking about a Singaporean 28 yr old lawyer hostage being killed in the terrorist attack in Mumbai. A young and promising lady, lost just like that. I dun know her, but some how just felt very sad and a pity that Singapore had lost this young lady and imagine the family that flew there is goin to handle all these devastation.

What kind of irritates me is the lack of coverage of this piece of news for Singaporeans. Of all methods, it had to come thru a sms, when I quickly log on to our local news website, I was so disappointed to not see any coverage. Well, they were faster during the Olympics when we went to the finals, but isn't this more important and deserve all the attention?

Finally after much anxious waiting, I had to see it on news on TV at 11pm, then finally on our magnificant newstation official website and they shouted "Breaking news"

Be strong and safe..

1 week ago today, we sent Doris on her last journey as she battled but lost to cancer.. Doris is a cousin of mine, but we were not that becoz we had quite a huge age gap, but during the final journey, I still couldn't hold back my tears as we saw the last of her..

My regards goes out to the direct family, esp the husband and the young kids. So much to bear and so much to go thru.. Throughout every session I was at the wake, all I heard was the story of Doris being a strong woman and a family which nvr gave up. Nothing much to mention as I wish Doris is with her Lord and the family be brave and strong.. As Kevin was saying, they now have tis dream and challenge to bring up the kids to be doctors in researching for a cure for this dreadful disease.. For their mummy, I know they will do it!!!

The big bang experiment..

Heard that it's the biggest physics experiment at all times, all the hype and noise abt it has occupy all headlines across various news stations and websites.

Many critics has tok abt the possibility of a black hole generating from the collision of the particles kindda freak me out a little, and the various mankind threatening pheonomenan. Fear strikes and really starts to hesitate whether to read more about the potential catasophe.

I guess the best way to overcome fear is to face it...
Indeed I did not regret, as I did more reading, it does seems more ppl speculate on the tis end-of-the-world topic more than the experiment itself.. After many rounds of reading and somehow, more convinced this is indeed the experiment for the good of mankind than to harm them.

May God bless these researchers and guide them the right directions.. Safe and sound..

Clever, smart player whom you will not feel bored watching.. Haa, dunno since when I start liking tennis and I cannot stop enjoying them since Wimbledon finals 2 months back, to Olympics and now US Open. Will continus this interest some how, hopefully ipicking up the racket and whack some balls.

2 baby story in 1 weekend

It was a wonderful Friday night where some of our closest friends gathered at my god-daughter's house to for a spendid steamboat. The special guest of the night was Cynthia, who flew back to visit her friends and relative from overseas work. It was abt 6 mth when we last saw her, never disappointing us, still as cute/sweet but blurr and lost.. haha

The other highlight is still not the steamboat. It's my god-daughter. Everyone took turns to carry her. As a god-father, I was a disappointing one, haiz.. Cannot even carry her properly and dunno how to pacify her like how all the other uncles and aunties were doing. Cute definitely dun need to say. Big eyes, smooth skin and the familiar crying voice.... but all babies sound the same when they cry, why ah?

Remember almost 11 mth ago, when yan secretly told us that she's pregnant, we were so happy!! The first of your closest friend is giving birth to a little princess in 7-8 mth time, WOW! It was unforgettable, frm the news being known, to the seeing her tummy growing and the things they did for the little precious, to giving birth, the confinement month.. Magnificant!! You cannot understand the anticipation and the sacrifice you would do for the precious!! And indeed, after all those hard work, you see a beginning of a new life and seeing it grow is the most touching things to happen in life..

Just over 24 hours, I also managed to get a piece of news of a new life from another friend. This time it wasn't a happy or touching one. It was a unexpected news of a new life of a unmarried couple. When you always hear these stories on the internet or TV, you just think that it will not happen to ppl around you, but i'm wrong!! Truth is indeed hurtful. They took up the painful decision, there goes. I'm in no right to judge who's wrong who's not, it wasn't quite a choice that the decision was made. Just disapppointment and feeling sad, could only vent some fustrations and forget what has been done..

Deadline Thriller

What's new? All the transfers happening only at the last hr as usual.. it just gets more exciting over the years.. Rejuvenation for Man U as Berbatov finally makes the move to for over a 30M pound deal. Promise.. My next man u jersey will definitely be his name.. Song boz...

The shock of the town still has to be Robinho's transfer to Man C.. Manchester must have been a happening town on Monday night. Robinho's move smash all British records and of course his pay rise is definitely worth mentioning. According to reports, his new pay is 3 times his Real pay, whoa lan.. Quickly on my FM to discover his pay stands at $60,000 pound per week. So it will be $180,000 pound per week in man c? OMG.. who else can earn that kind of money.. is he tat good? Can't wait to see his debut against Chelsea in 10 days time..(of all clubs.. hahah)

Aspirations

Just finished a seminar by Microsoft, they call it MixItUp.. mainly to introduce Visual Studio 2008 and some cool looking development tools...

First is a short 15 min talk by their director, Mr Fernadez (think spelling is wrong), a wonderful speaker who didnt really say much technical stuff. Only the next 2 speakers touch on the technical details which really put me to day-dream a little..

Looking the way they demo the development tools, it really somehow inspire me to go into .net developing to realise the dreams of building chio chio applications accessed on the web. With a head full of coding knowledge gives me another kind of satisfaction which really no other IT job can give me.. This is truely what inspire me to be a developer, and possibily 1 day as a presenter or lecturer to give my lecture on a certain topic and answering every troubling questions that conmes. But how feasible is this goin to be? Can I ever stand up there to give a gd presentation and crack some joke to amuse the whole crowd?

Well for all those to happen, I first need to quit my job.. oops.. my colleagues will be seeing this. But you see, there is more things in life than realising your aspirations alone!!

How much have these ppl really gone thru to stand up high and presenting their knowledge and ideas? They are ever so readily prepared with answers to the most embarassing and political questions, did they go thru some terrible ordeal to learn that answer? Did they sacrifice some friends or love or family ties to gain all those knowledge?

Maybe I sound too serious also.. Well, there has to be quite some failure examples to see these success stories right in front of you..

It will be just another day of work and looking forward to my next pay day for now.. Hopes, inspirations, ambitions, all these have to come another day..

Cannot buy my iPhone...

Haiz, the wait has finally ended, Singtel has finally released it pricing for iPhone on the midnight of 20Aug 2008 just as rumours described..

I'm not a typical youtube or net savy guy who will hog on the internet even on the move, so their "fantastic" flexi plans is not for me.. I should just stick to classic "Classic" plan, since i'm already a loyalty customer. Only $568 for 8GB and $728 for 16GB. 8GB is reasonable enough for me i guess..

Just as I happily ready to commit then I stupidly realised, "ya hor, my 2 yr contract nvr 21mth yet!!!" $568 then should become $668.. omg.. budget burst!!!

Have to wait till November then can get liao.. see you soon iPhone..

To console myself, I can only tell myself, no point paying $100 more for just a 3mth wait, another thing is "use this waiting period" to see reviews and let our "pilot" users chiong in first to suffer.. haiz...

Table tennis star Ai Fukuhara

I'm not a big fan of table tennis but no man gets bored looking at gd-looking sportswoman. haha
Firstly congrats to Singapore reaching the finals of Olympics finals in table tennis, but they are not the ones going to be featured here.
16 Aug 2008 morning, Japan vs Hong Kong in the bronze medal play-offs, Hong Kong 1 Japan 0, the next game is between Japan's Ai Fukuhara vs Hong Kong's Lin Ling. When the TV was on, Fukuhara was already 2 games down, 1 more by Lin Ling and it will be Hong Kong 2-0, but somehow she fought back to 1-1 for Japan an amazing comeback.
As I watched, kindda notice this girl is quite sweet and cute looking. Though young looking, she releases a charm of a devoted sportswoman whom has a nvr-say-die attitude. Of course next, is to on the PC and start google-ing "Ai Fukuhara". Here some of results from the searches.

As I dig out more pics, managed to find more of her info on wiki, when has wiki disappoint us? After reading, I was even more impressed!!

Born 1 November 1988, already rank 10 at the age of 19++, highest table tennis ranking for any Japanese on the official ITTF rankings. Starting to play at 3 yrs old, and playing professional at 10, joining the Japanese team in the following year. Numerous competitons in her 20 years of playing. Recently made abassador to China-Japan Cutural and Sports exchange year along with Noriko Sakai. Impressive!! Education wise, she on her way to the Waseda University.

Besides all of those stats, she was the flag bearer of the team Japan at the Olympics opening ceremony!! A prestigious honour for any sportsman or woman, only the country's icon will be carrying the flag, such as Roger Federer for Switzerland or Yao Ming for China.

By the way looking at the rankings for ITTF, look at the names of top 25 woman players and see the pattern, while looking at their country again, what do you see? http://www.ittf.com/ittf_ranking/Ranking.asp

While we admire her success and talent, she has to be part of Japan sporting and world table tennis history. But are you aware that at the age of 3, you would not remember what you like and what you don't? At 3 when u start playing table tennis, is it really what you want? While many Singaporean were scolding some parents for using their young kids to show off and force them to produce trophies of all sorts, is Ai Fukuhara one of these victims like those in Singapore? If not, then what's the difference between her and some of our poor kids performing on Saturdays programmes singing and dancing? Why do we praise her only but scold those in Singapore? So when parents push their child to learn something, is she becoming another Ai Fukuhara or becoming a victim of Singapore critics?

Think about it...

Ai Fukuhara.. Stay cute..

You want to compare Olympics opening ceremony to National Day Parade?

As I speak, I'm watching the Beijing 2008 opening ceremony. I have heard so many times that the opening ceremony is spectacular, no doubt about it. Sadly, the next day is our very own National Day Parade 2008. Sad not because it is not as good as the olympics, but sad that from then on, there has nvr been a moment of complaint abt our parade compared to the ceremony!!
(trust me, wait till you take a look at PRK's national day, we managed to see some shots from documentaries, wun lose to Beujing 2008..)

What do you want? Do you know how long they take to organise this ceremony? How many students were involved? How much money was spend on the props and equipment? Mind you, they are doing it for perhaps 1 in a 100 years. How many billions of people is watching from their home's TV.

Well since you want that standard, ask yourself the following:

If you are a parent, will you not complain that your son is participating in the parade rehersals everyday and neglecting their studies? Probably half of them will drop out because of tiredness, another half because of school work, what's new?

If you are out of job and grumbling abt the government, would you make noise and say "Why the country can spend so much on a stupid parade but not give me some money to buy food or use some time to find me a job?"

Our poor NSmen and Ns personel are already poor thing enough to burn their weekends to help out at the parade, you think everybody will be happy about preparing and rehersing?

Beijing alone has 17million, SG about 5million maybe. What do you want?

Well, watch and enjoy the opening ceremony, praise them and remember till the next Olympics, just think abit before you make your complaint ALOUD..

He's trying to say "not rich dun drive la.."

Saw this very unpleasant article on asiaone and I believe it would have appeared in a few more places. The person whom post the article was trying to tell netizens that car owners should stop complaining abt driving costs in SG. Such as the hike in petrol and ERP charges.. But the way he sound towards the end really piss me off..

"Many Singaporean motorists, including myself, purchase a car for convenience, and if we can well afford it, we should not be complaining about parking rates and other costs of maintaining a vehicle."

I do feel he's trying to simply say "Not rich dun drive la.. stop grumbling.."

Has he ever wondered who these complaints really came from?
Apart from the miser minority whom drive a car to feel a lift in status, the real complaints and victims are the people who has to survive on driving, private bus drivers, delivery ppl and taxi drivers perhaps..

You think they hav a choice when it comes to petrol and ERP increment? they lan lan hav to drive and suffer, all just for the family, making ends meet. Not like what the write says, "..we should not be complaining about parking rates and other costs of maintaining a vehicle.." They dun wan to maintain a vehicle.. but do they have a choice? NO!!!

You better not post another bladdy article complaing ur kids' school bus increase their fee again..

Lunching in Raffles Place area

Raffles place has indeed developed a culture of its own, that is so uniquely Singapore, by the number of tissue packets on the seats than the number of ppl looking for seats.

Well, I just discovered another interesting fact, is the conversation which ppl talked abt.

You dun have to eavesdrop on the person sitting next to you, abt what they are talking abt and what they are complaining abt. They seems like they are nvr shy to share with you. It will definitely always be some complaints from the office!

Usually, the morning accumulated nonsense and unhappiness, will all be spilled during lunch, already there is not enough time to eat, the person sitting next to you will still be grumbling, "whoa lao, that betty hor, ppl 9 o'clock work, she come in at 9.30..", "the thing Candy ask me to do is ridiculous, y? think i'm her maid ah.." etc etc etc..

Since it's Monday, these complaints are unneccsary louder, the way they sound, they are nvr wrong, but what can they do when they go back office again? Behave like nothing happen and work...

Well, it's not ethically or moralely (think the spellings all wrong) unsound or bad, but hav you wondered who is sitting next to u? could he/she be your new colleague or ur new boss, even worse. Could that person know some one from your office, since half of the ppl working there wears a pass during lunch? Imagine the foreigners moving ard us, do we want them to have an image of Singaporeans as really complaint king / queen? it's really about time to shake away these tags!!

Since the morning is already bad enough and nothing can be done, well, y dun we just try to forget them and share wif your lunch mate what happening / happy / interesting / funny things is goin around you over the weekend? wouldn't that be more interesting and enjoying? hav a gd laugh and go back to work smiling.. and hav a better day from there on.

Battle of Red Cliff Review

While the whole world is queueing up to be the first to get their hands on iPhone, I'm proud to say I'm the first few hundreds to catch 赤壁 in Singapore first. (lame, nvm..)

Well, gd show overall, with a disappointing ending, not becoz it's lousy, but becoz there's no ending.. Should have thought of that when I realised that there is no burning ship on the trailers. The whole theatre complained and you can hear whispers ard you saying "Huh?! that's it??"

Overall still a not bad show though.. gd battle scenes and some funny parts to entertain the ladies not there for the history portion, for historians, it's kind of 三国演义 的演义, watch it and you might understand what i trying to say.

Complaints about Lin Zhi Ling being a "vase" in the show, just like a friend brought it up, "How can 小乔 not be a vase in this show?" So what if you put an Oscar winner at the role, nothing much she can do for that role, so stop complaining..

Must repeat myself.. kinda love the jokes between Zhuge Liang and Zhou Yu, pls be reminded that they dun really exist is history..

Waste my leave and my sleep..

Getting all pumped up and ready for 1st semi finals between Germany and Turkey, so I set 2 alarm at 2.45am and 3.45am in order not to miss too much of the game. But by the time I really woke up is already 4.15am..

Whoa lan, feeling disappointed that I miss the whole game, I am even more disappointed with what is going to happen next..

Turned on the TV to see the score tie at 1-1 at 76th min, but the interesting thing was how come Philip Lahm is not moving?? Guess there was a lag in transmission ba then I patiently wait for the image to resume again. Then again, I fell asleep, but for every 2 min or so, I opened my eyes to glance if the match is back. Wehn it finally came back, it is already 88th min!!! and the score stood at 2-2 this time.

"@#$%^&%$#@$%^$#@@%$^$#@##&^*&%$#^#&^$#$^%&^$#$@#^$&%&%$#@#%

First I have to overslept, then the transmission have to disappear for me to miss another 2 goals. But luckily, Germany scored another 1 but followed by another transmission error again

"@!##$%^$@!$#%^&@#!^@%&*#$@&^*&$#%^&*&$%#@%^&*(^&%#^&^*&&^%$^%#

This time, I didnt bother, striaght away to the bed and catch that last 2 hr of sleep before work. Waste my sleep and my leave.. sianz..

My "Latest" Favourite HK drama

After a boring Monday, can finally catch the 11th episode of VV drama's 溏心风暴..

For those who have SCV, pls tune into channel 55 every weekday at 9pm.. Really very nice show..
For non-subscriber, dun be sad, looking at the trend of channel 8 and channel U, I think they will proudly present it on TV by 2010, trust me!!

Just as I do a google for this series, suddenly I saw some headlines, saying..
"TVB大戏《溏心风暴》曾在香港创下2003年以来的港剧收视纪录 .. "

OMG, as I was singing your praise, little did I know this show was best seller in HK in 2003, and it's part 2 is coming out.. Come to think of it, SH, I do have many complaints about you.. I shall leave that to another day, stay tune as well.

Now, some credits to 2 very impressive actors/actress whom caught my attention.

陈豪
So used to him being a bad guy and now he starred as an old fashion 30 yr old man who is full of jokes and crap, but definitely no doubt he will impress you with his new image, esp if you hav caught him on other shows as being serious, mature and bad..

锺嘉欣

Yup, nothing but chio, a bit ang mo look, significant improvement in acting, ever since the 皆大欢喜 II where she acted as a chio executive. Do look out for her in coming HK drama. Here she play a sweet looking girl who had gone thru alot of hardship before becoming a top lawyer i think (dun forget i onli at episode 11)

No doubt these 2 are the main leads of the 11 episode so far, see them almost 50% of the time. Up till now, all the scene were funny and sometimes touching, those happy endings after some family unhappines kind. Heard from my friend this is actually a very very sad show.. Oh mine, we shall see how it goes. For those who have seen this show, pls dun laugh at me k if i say something very wrong.

Ok, I going to catch my favourite drama again liao.. Yes, the same episode, since SH have this 3hr replay thing, sound stupid but you can nvr stop repeatedly watching your favourite show.

Cheers,
Hav a gd week ahead, hope my next post dun come 1 month later.

Champion's League Finals Review (of another kind)

5.36am 22nd May 2008

Manchester United has just claimed the Champions' League trophy once again after 9 fateful years. Some things to remember about this final..

Even watching in the comfort of my sofa, I couldn't stop worrying esp after seeing Ronaldo miss the 3rd penalty, as Terry comes forward for the last kick, when all man u fans thought it was gone but surprisingly he missed... Song bo?!?!

Oh my.. Something to think about, how will you handle if you were John Terry? Avram Grant for once did something sensible this season by quickly rush forward to console him right after the last penalty. Terry did everything right tonight only except the penalty, how he had wish everything had gone wrong except the penalty instead.

Drogba, shame of the game, that slap he gave Vidic was perhaps his way of saying "I quit!" perhaps. Stupid, foolish, nonsense, dumb.. pls gimme more words to describe that.

Scholes finally got to play his CL finals, but have to leave the game with a broken nose, at least he wasn't alone, Nani broke his head also while Hargreaves at some point of the game had a bleeding nose as well, since when did football become so bloody.. it's more dangerous than my army days.

Let me catch man u lift the trophy then will update more about the match again.

Making an effort

Finally I have gathered enough effort to start blogging, when my sis saw me trying to start a blog, she laughed at me saying, "Not in liao la.."

Well, never mind la, it's meant to be like a diary, to record the important events in the years and not to forget the details as time flies.

Other than events, guess I will be posting a lot of complaints about happenings around us, I still a typical Singaporean after all, like to complain a lot. Of course, significant moments like man u winning a game etc I might also blog, haha..

Most importantly, hope to hear more from my friends if they see my blog and have comments about it, with that then I will find the motivation to continue blogging.

Cheers..
